First of all, thank you SO much to my sweet hubby for my surprise post! I love you! And thank you to all of my friends here and on facebook that have wished me a happy birthday!

Second of all, I will have you all know that I slept until 11:15am on my birthday.

However, it wasn’t for the fun of it. It was because I didn’t go to sleep until 4:45.

I don’t know why this keeps happening to me this year on holidays – Mother’s Day, Independence Day, right after Labor Day, and now my Birthday. It’s odd. And annoying.

I’m going to have to declare an end to ALL special days. You can keep your birthday, but the rest of them have to go. There’s just too much of a risk factor for me.

Anyway, my stomach hurt last night while we were sitting and watching television, and then it got worse when we went upstairs to go to sleep. It hurt bad enough to keep me awake until 3:30, at which time I gave up and came downstairs to see if that would help.

Then the fun started. A full-on stomach virus. Or something.

The first time I got sick, I had one of those moments – where you realize, “well THAT just changed the whole weekend”.

So I finally managed to keep a Phenergan (Anti-nausea) down by 4:45, and dozed on and off until 11:15 (with a few breaks to coordinate Ali’s care by my Mom in order to try to prevent her from getting this awfulness).

Right now, I still feel queasy, but a little better. I haven’t dared eat anything.

It’s just frustrating that it would have to happen on my birthday. I’ve always been big about “the actual day” of birthdays and anniversaries, and so it gets under my skin. Especially since this year just seems to be a continual sickness.

But oh well. Such is life. I am so thankful for my Mom being willing to take Ali on a moment’s notice all the time. I can’t imagine not having grandparents in town to care for my children while I’m sick, as so many people don’t. And I am thankful for Chris doing whatever it takes to get her taken care of as well.

I am so blessed!

  1. OH MAN! Poor you!:( That really sucks…I hope you get to feeling better very soon. At least you went to the Melting Pot last weekend and not today, right?!:)

  2. Oh, Rachel, I am so sorry. You know my b’day was not all it was cracked up to be this year (but not due to illness) and so Preston let me have a “do-over” the next day. When you get to feeling better, you should definitely have a do-over birthday day.

  3. I am sorry you are sick on your birthday! It seems unfair, I hope you feel better soon. I had a stomach flu last month (Not fun). You are lucky to have a great mom willing to help out at a moments notice.
